AWARD WINNING RIBBERS

BILLY BONES: Greg Brunton of Fort Erie loves the thrill of winning and has won the "Best Ribs Award" at many Ribfests.
NIAGARA FALLS NEWS -- Another Rotary Ribfest, another couple of trophies for Billy Bones.

Greg Brunton, who runs the Canadian division of Billy Bones ribs, was behind the grill once again at the third annual Rotary Ribfest at Optimist Park and won the people's choice award. Brunton, from Fort Erie, has won the prize every year.
"I love winning -- it's one of the reasons why I do this," said Brunton, who was also awarded the trophy for best ribs. "The work is fun, but winning is the best."
Boss Hog's from London won the trophy for best sauce.
Niagara Falls Sunrise Rotary Club, organizers of the event, figure more than 15,000 people came by Optimist Park Friday, Saturday and Sunday, where ribbers from around the region, southern Ontario and as far away as Naples, Florida set up shop. Brunton, who also supplied the meat for all the ribbers at the festival, said there was probably 15,000 pounds of ribs cooked over the three days.
"It was a fantastic weekend," said Brunton, who is now on his way to an event in Ottawa. "The crowds came out, the music was fantastic and Rotary did an excellent job."
A portion of the proceeds from the event will go toward the Rotary Club's community and international projects, which supports a number of local organizations. By Robert Lapens Published on Jun 20, 2007
